Can you fix these dark spots?

One of the most often question we hear at the spa from our clients is "How to I get rid of these dark spots on my face?" Always my first response is to practice sun safely and wear SPF, everyday, even if you don't feel like you're in the sun. Most of us forget our 15-30+ minute commute to work each day and unless you've had UV tinting applied to your side windows (which is available and recommended) you get way more sun damage just with these short daily ride than you realize. And the few other mini exposures in the sun add up as well. (not that I am saying you should avoid the sun all together, I do recommend getting your Vitamin D daily form the sun, but I'll save that for another blog.)

But what to do about the dark spots already there? Well, until you are able to commit to wearing a high quality sunscreen of SPF30 on a daily basis, anything you do will not work. But once you're ready to take care of your skin, then we can help! Depending on how much damage is there, what time of year it is, and your lifestyle, depends on what treatments we will recommend.

One of the best professional treatments is doing a series of lightening lifts, normally using Lactic and Kojic Acids. Ok, if you are like some peeps, the word 'acid' just made you cringe!Let me put your mind to ease... both of these acids are gentle, Lactic is mainly derived from sour milk, and is known as the gentlest AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) for professional skincare. And Kojic Acid is a species of Fungi (mushrooms) and is a wonder acid that is natural melanin inhibitor, which means its stops the skin from producing dark spots from sun exposure. Kojic Acid is highly stable and is all natural, so no worry of harmful chemicals on your skin. With a series of lifts, you will notice your skin lightening and brightening and smoothing out.

But professional treatments are just the workout routine for your skin, you can't forget your daily healthy skincare regime of using high quality skincare products at home to give your skin the nutrition it needs to stay youthful, healthy and balanced. Using a lightening serum daily, which we love Image Skincare's Iluma Lightening Serum, which has a blend of botanicals lightenings including kojic acid, with anti-oxidants. Along with your SPF every day, again we love Image Prevention+ day time moisturizer and sunscreen, will prevent any more sun damage and hyperpigmentation.

You CAN reverse sun damage on your skin, as long as you are ready to practice sun safety and seek out a professional skincare therapist for your corrective treatments along with a healthy home regime that's right for your skin, your goals and your lifestyle! But prevention is key, so remember to wear sunscreen daily and see your esthetician monthly to keep your skin healthy and glowing!
